Hi. I’m Sara. I’ve lived in the Bay Area for over 20 years, but was raised in good ol’ Louisville, KY. I grew up with a mother who not only encouraged creativity, and excelled in home renovations, she also had a good eye for dumpster finds. She first taught me her trade the summer before moving into my first apartment. My mom and I rummaged, and if memory serves, about half of all my furniture came from someone’s trash. I loved driving around with her and looking for our next find.
Fast forward 20(+) years. From the time of my first dumpster dive to today life happened. After 2 decades of bay living I think I can finally call myself a local. I will always have Kentucky in my heart, but California is much more my style. I’ve had (and continue to have) an extremely fortunate career as a designer, rooted in branding and packaging. I recently left my job as VP of Design at Habit (a personalized nutrition company, check them out at habit.com), and during the first few weeks after leaving I reconnected with my love of creating - specifically finding old furniture that’s on it’s way out and making it usable again.
My passion not only comes from the process of getting down and dirty, but also from feeling like we are in a new era of furniture commerce. I remember growing up with antiques, and while antiques aren’t my style the one good thing about them is they stay. I seems that in the past 10+ years furniture has become like fashion, it’s seasonal and therefore fleeting. Online stores, such as Wayfair and Joss & Main, have popped up and more and more low/mid-quality furniture is being purchased everyday. It creates so much waste, and with lower quality more and more of this stuff is ending up a landfill everyday. By no means and I innocent of this trend, during moves I have been guilty of ordering a rug from wayfair, or a lamp from Joss and Main. But… maybe a little change can help.
So here I am. What will come of this? Who knows. But… I’m always looking for a good piece of furniture. I’m available for one-off projects, and I’m also willing to take anything you are ready to part with. Hit me up.
